Welcome to the Underground: Philadelphia’s Indie Hip Hop Scene Part 2

Here we are again my friends. Gathered here to read and witness what’s really going on in indie hip-hop music in Philly. Well, I have two hidden secrets that’s keeping the streets of Philly buzzing about hip-hop music. Because it’s the season for giving, I’m going to give you these two gifts early. You may have heard rap, but you haven’t heard it like this. Check out the article after the jump.

 NoZZy

NoZZy was born and raised in the streets of North Philadelphia, and it is here where he fell in love with the hip-hop culture. He used to see a bunch of guys gathered together on the corner of his block having freestyle cyphers, and it immediately caught his attention. NoZZy first begin writing poetry at the age of 7, which eventually turned into the writing of hip-hop lyrics at the age of 10, and he had his first performance at age 11 in a talent show for his summer camp. After the crowds reaction to that performance, it struck a fire inside him that has yet to be extinguished.

Nozzy’s mixtape Mary Jane Blvd. is an indie hip-hop classic. With tight production and raw lyrics, Mary Jane Blvd. is a must have download. Each song, from track one to sixteen, showcases Nozzy’s lyrical ability and talent. Far from the ‘usual’ type of indie hip-hop artist here in the City of brotherly love, Nozzy’s music is filled with thought provoking subject matter and a heavy dose of reality. When you download his free mixtape, you will not be disappointed. Nozzy has the talent to make it into the mainstream market. I’m sure this won’t be the last you hear of him.

Nyghtmare

Starting at 16 years old, Nyghtmare is ready to step into this rap game and make his mark in music. Born and raised in the Uptown section of Philadelphia, Nyghtmare’s inspiration is derived from the trials and tribulations that plague society every day.  His love for music, dedication and hard-work makes him seem mature beyond his years. With music that mixes hardcore hip hop, pop, party music, and R&B, Nyghtmare is ready for the next level.

With more features than I can list in this write-up, Nyghtmare is making moves. His music is a depiction of a hard life in the inner city. The witty metaphors or ‘punch lines’ that Nyghtmare creatively molds into his raps distinctively separates him from the rest, and as a result, he is highly sought after for his creative ‘hooks’ and rap style. Not too over the top, he has a good balance on how to create music that will appeal to the streets, as well as to the radio. With a new upcoming mixtape due out early next year, you’ll be in for a real treat that will take you back to when hip hop was really was hip hop.
