Introducing Icky Blossoms

Over the past ten years, a recurrent question in my life has been: “What’s in the water in Omaha, Nebraska?” While the answer might be rocket fuel, arsenic or pesticides, Icky Blossoms, the newest recruit of the mighty label Saddle Creek Records, shows us yet again that there must be something else- a chemical X of sorts that grants parched tongues beautiful gifts.
Comprised of Tilly and the Wall’s Derek Pressnall, filmmaker/musician Nik Fackler (Lovely, Still) and vocalist Sarah Bohling, Icky Blossoms brings that staple “Omaha sound” a sigh of hazy dream pop (“Perfect Vision”) mixed with a punch of grungy (and seriously sexy) dance-inspired pulsations (“Babes”). What they lack in anthemic power, they make up with genuine feeling, with music that seems to melt into an aural dream or acid trip. Apparently collaborating with TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek, Icky Blossoms promises to have their debut album out sometime soon this year. Keep an eye out for further releases and tentative tour dates.
