Cults @ Union Transfer (1/13/12)
I’m skeptical of buzz bands, those haphazardly assembled internet music groups with something like two or three tracks to their name. They make their way around the blogging circuit, some even fortunate enough to have a feature on Stereogum or Pitchfork, while others fall into oblivion with a “one-hit wonder” that makes everyone’s summer playlist or party sampler. Is there anything to qualify the buzz? Can, or rather should, something so ephemeral garner so much attention from trendy youth looking for the next big thing? Maybe, or perhaps not. I won’t say. But it seems like one band, Cults, has the potential to rise above their buzz, and plant their roots firmly into the quickly aging soil of contemporary indie pop.

Cults @ Johnny Brenda’s 3/26/11: Live Review and Interview (in a van)
Making the last-minute switch to headliner at Johnny Brenda’s on Saturday night, Cults took the stage after 11 pm and played a brief set (under thirty minutes) of the catchy, charmingly dark music that’s garnered them so much ‘buzz’ over the past year.

Cults @ Johnny Brenda’s this Saturday
Cults aka the buzziest band of the moment ever will be playing with Asobi Seksu and Warm Ghost this Saturday at Johnny Brenda’s in Philly. Cults generated some really positive live coverage during SXSW and just released their new song You Know What I Mean (see below), with a full album dropping on May 30th. Check back next week for WQHS’s full coverage of their show at JB’s.
